EXIM Policy and Procedure
Foreign Trade Policy & Procedure (formerly EXIM
Policy) is announced in every five years by the Ministry of Commerce
& Industry, Government of India to boost India's foreign trade
and to define policy relating to the general provisions regarding
exports and imports.
Foreign Trade Policy is updated every year on the
31st of March and the modifications, improvements and new schemes
are effective w.e.f. 1st April of every year in line with the five
year's policy.
The current Foreign Trade Policy has been announced
for the year 2004-09 with one of the aim to double India's share
in global merchandise trade. The Foreign Trade Policy for the year
2007-08 was announced with effect from April 1, 2007.
This Foreign Policy has identified some special focus
areas i.e. agriculture, handlooms, handicrafts, gems & jewellery,
leather and marine sectors to increase India's share in global merchandise
trade and employment.
